Coordinator of External Libaray Services --  Wayland Baptist University --
Texas
 

POSITION&#58;   COORDINATOR OF EXTERNAL LIBRARY SERVICES (F30)
LOCATION&#58;   WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY, PLAINVIEW CAMPUS
DIVISION&#58;   MABEE LEARNING RESOURCES CENTER (LRC)
RESPONSIBILITIES&#58;  The Coordinator of External Library Services is
responsible for   assessing and articulating goals and needs for external
campus patrons.  Work with Electronic Access Associate to provide library
materials to student and faculty at external campuses.  Provide reference
services to patrons from all campuses.  Fill in as needed in absence of
other librarians.  This position is based on a twelve (12) month contract.

                                                                          
                                                                           
            
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES&#58; 
1.  Assess and articulate electronic and traditional library resource
needs of the distance learning community, the services provided them,
including instruction, and the facilities utilized.
2. Assess the availability, appropriateness, use, goals, and objectives of
existing library support for distance learning.  Involve the distance
learning community in this evaluation.
3. Develop written profiles of distance learning community's information
needs, statements of immediate and long-range goals and objectives for
distance learning, and outlines of the methods by which progress can be
measures.
4. Promote the incorporation of the distance learning goals and objectives
into those of the library and of the originating institution as a whole,
and make recommendations as necessary.
5. Participate with administrators, collection development librarian, and
teaching faculty in curriculum development and course planning for
distance courses to ensure that appropriate library resources and services
are available.
6. Ensure that regional and other accreditation agency requirements are
met and provide written documentation describing this adherence.
7. Make regular visits to distance teaching sites to promote library
support services to the distance learning community, give bibliographic
instruction, evaluate available resources, and develop cooperative
services and relationships with administration, faculty, and other
librarians.
8. Work with external campus deans to develop and maintain
cooperative&#47;compensatory agreements providing access to library and
other information services for distance users.
9. Develop methods of providing library materials and services from the
main library to the distance learning community.
10. Supervise and ensure prompt delivery of materials and documents
requested by distance library users under fair-use and copyright laws. 
Promote&#47;provide alternative methods of acquiring resources when
necessary.
11.  Provide traditional and emerging reference and bibliographic
instruction services and resources to patrons from all campuses.
12.  Serve on faculty and university committees.
13. Work at main reference desk and circulation desk as scheduled or in
absence of other librarians and staff.
14.  Share weekend&#47;evening hours with other librarians.
15.  Provide bibliographic instruction to patrons and assist them in their
use of library equipment.
16.  Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

duties performed by employees in this job.  Employee may perform other
related duties as assigned by Director of the Library.
QUALIFICATIONS&#58;
Academic&#58;  Master's Degree in Library Science or Information Studies
or equivalent from ALA accredited school.
Experience & Knowledge&#58; Experience with distance education services in
an academic setting; Knowledge and experience in providing print and
electronic reference services; Knowledge and experience with standard
desktop computing applications, the Internet, web publishing and
bibliographic databases.
Skills & Abilities&#58;  Good oral and written communication skills;
Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with students, faculty, staff
and others; Computer proficiency with programs such as Word, Excel,
Access, library automation, e.g. Sirsi; Exhibit skillful, pleasant, and
tactful manner in receiving telephone calls and meeting students,
employees and visitors; Work independently, receiving minimum of
supervision and guidance on established procedures; Able to acquire a
thorough working knowledge of policies and procedures; Ability to use
administrative reporting channels appropriately; Anticipate problem and
use sound judgment and tact in handling confidential matters.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions&#58; 
1.  Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. of boxed books.
2.  Ability to travel to other campuses as necessary.
3.  Extended desk and computer work may be required.
4.  Work desk is openly located on the 2nd floor main stacks area.
5.  Work areas are well lighted, ventilated, heated and air-conditioned.
6. Other physical demands may be necessary as required by duties listed
above. 
THE UNIVERSITY&#58;  Wayland Baptist University is a four-year liberal
arts university.  The institution is affiliated with the Baptist General
Convention of Texas. The Wayland Baptist University System is comprised of
the Plainview campus, which is predominately a residential campus, twelve
external campuses, and the Virtual Campus offering courses in all academic
areas.
