Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection Librarian, University of Georgia Libraries.
The Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection Librarian/Archivist is responsible for the organization, inventory, and cataloging of the George Foster Peabody Awards Archive and other archival moving image and sound collections and provides research assistance for access to the Peabody and other archival collections.
This position works closely with the Peabody Awards Office providing assistance with organizing the material for transfer to the Media Archives at the end of the yearly Awards cycle.
The Media Archives is dedicated to developing and presenting public programming and educational materials that facilitate and encourage research, raise public awareness of the Archives and its collections and services, and provide learning opportunities for the communities it serves. The Media Archives pursues alliances and opportunities for collaboration with individuals and organizations that advance its mission.
The Peabody Awards Collection is a radio and television collection with over 50,000 titles. Over 1000 entries are submitted each year which adds approximately 5000 individual items including entry forms and other entry ephemera to be sorted and processed.
The Media Archives uses an in-house Ultimate database for cataloging and providing access to these materials. This position is responsible to the Director of the Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection. The Department is comprised of three librarians, five support staff and student assistants. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required.
