BROOKDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
FACULTY OPPORTUNITIES – SEPTEMBER 2007
Brookdale Community College is recognized for its focused commitment to
its students and community. Brookdale provides a world of opportunities
for study, learning, and working experience, in the traditional classroom,
via the Internet, through experiential learning opportunities and by
distance education courses. Brookdale has grown dynamically into an
institution with limitless horizons, as it continues to meet the evolving
needs of its students and its community. The main campus is located on 220
acres in central coastal New Jersey, approximately 50 miles south of New
York.
The College invites applications for Faculty positions for September 2007.
Brookdale is an innovative and comprehensive open admission two-year
college. Total student enrollment for Fall 2006 was 13,279. Brookdale
awarded 1,572 Associate’s degrees and Certificates in Spring 2006, placing
it first among New Jersey’s 19 public community colleges and 52nd in the
nation. Enrollment continues to increase and significant growth is
anticipated in the next five years. Brookdale forms partnerships with
other educational providers to afford expanded access to post-associate
degree learning at the baccalaureate and graduate levels. We seek
colleagues who share our unequivocal commitment to excellence and
innovation in teaching, learning, and student development and who value
diversity and service. These are full time, tenure track positions. These
positions are primarily based at the Lincroft campus at this time (unless
otherwise noted); however, teaching assignments may include other college
locations in the county.
CHEMISTRYMaster’s degree in Chemistry required. Teaching responsibilities
will include both day and evening classes in Introductory, General, Allied
Health, non-majors Chemistry and potentially Organic and Biochemistry.
Online classes are available and training is provided for interested
faculty.
ENGLISH(2 POSITIONS, ONE OF WHICH IS FULL-TIME AT THE BRANCH CAMPUS IN
FREEHOLD)
Master’s degree in English required. Will consider Master’s degree in
closely related field with previous experience teaching college-level
writing and an undergraduate degree in English. Knowledge of current
English composition pedagogy, ability to teach freshman composition and
research writing courses necessary. Must have proficiency in use of
computers for writing, research, and teaching writing. Knowledge
of/experience in curriculum design and assessment is preferred.
FITNESS
Master’s degree in Physical Education required. Generalist background with
willingness to teach all courses in the first/second undergraduate year
level. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with a broad array
of teaching skills. The following skills will be considered: Martial Arts,
Aerobics Dance, First Aid (all levels), Golf, Tennis, Kickboxing, Weight
Training, Fitness and Aquatics.
LIBRARY
PRIMARILY BRANCH CAMPUS AND HIGHER EDUCATION CENTERS
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or Library Science
required (must be accredited by the American Library Association).
Position is to serve primarily our Branch Campus in Freehold and four
regional HECs in Monmouth County. Essential responsibilities include
planning and presenting research education sessions for college courses
and library workshops, providing reference assistance to students, faculty
staff and community patrons, and keeping resources and services current and
relevant to the curriculum. Must be organized, innovative, and able to work
a flexible schedule at multiple locations. We seek a colleague who shares
our commitment to quality instruction, information and technological
literacy, collaborative relationships, and who values service and
diversity.
MATHEMATICS
(3 POSITIONS – ONE OF WHICH IS FULL-TIME AT THE BRANCH CAMPUS IN FREEHOLD)
Masters degree in Mathematics required. Will consider Master’s degree in
closely related field with at least 18 semester hours in graduate level
mathematics. Successful candidates must be able to teach courses in
mathematics from pre-algebra through differential equations. Developmental
courses will always be part of the teaching load; experience in teaching
developmental courses is a plus.
NURSING
(May be staffed at the Assistant Professor level.)
Master’s degree in Nursing and New Jersey RN license required. Educational
preparation or clinical experience in Pediatric Nursing preferred.
PSYCHOLOGY
Master’s degree in Psychology required. Seeking candidates with a
generalist background in psychology and teaching interests which are
sufficiently broad to provide outstanding instruction in a wide variety of
undergraduate psychology courses. Those possessing doctorate degrees in the
specialty areas of health psychology, social psychology, or cognitive
psychology are especially desirable.
RESPIRATORY THERAPY Baccalaureate degree in Respiratory Therapy or a
related field required. Master’s degree preferred. Candidates must hold or
be eligible for a New Jersey license as a Respiratory Therapist and also
hold the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential. Two years of
clinical experience is also required.
Compensation: Annual salary range for Instructor level for September 2007
is $44,968-$51,713. We anticipate hiring at the Instructor level; salary
is commensurate with qualifications/experience within the identified
range. Faculty members teaching extra courses or working additional during
the academic year and in the summer receive additional compensation.
Additional Preferences: Candidates for faculty positions should have
familiarity with current technological advances related to the discipline
and experience with innovative approaches to teaching, such as
student-centered learning. Candidates invited for an in-person interview
may be required to present a teaching demonstration. Enthusiasm,
dedication to teaching, commitment to the use of new technologies in
teaching, openness to new pedagogies, flexibility, and a willingness to
participate in departmental curriculum collaboration are essential.
