Latin American Library Bibliographer/Reference Librarian -- Tulane
University -- Louisiana
Library: Latin American Library Bibliographer/Reference Librarian.
The Latin American Library (LAL) at Tulane University seeks a creative and
service-oriented librarian with a strong background in the languages,
socioeconomic conditions, history and cultures of Latin America and the
Caribbean. This position reports to the director of the LAL in the
Howard-Tilton Memorial Library. The LAL is a world-renowned collection of
420,000 volumes, including rare books, manuscripts and other special
collections, housed separately within the main library. The LAL
Bibliographer/Reference Librarian shares with the LAL director the
development of LAL collections and management of the book budget.
S/he develops reference services and instructional programs for the
LAL and serves as liaison to relevant campus faculty, departments and
programs. Seeks ways to engage students and faculty on campus with
library collections and coordinates activities with other library
instruction programs on campus. Spearheads digital and microfilming
initiatives and maintains the LAL Web site. This librarian also serves on
library and Stone Center for Latin American Studies committees and
actively participates in national and international professional and
scholarly associations. Minimum qualifications: 1) ALA-accredited MLS
or its equivalent and a degree in a relevant subject area; or advanced
degree in a relevant subject area and substantial professional experience
in an academic library; 2) Excellent command of Spanish and/or
Portuguese, spoken and written; 3) Knowledge of the history, politics,
economics, literatures and cultures of Latin America; 4) Familiarity with
electronic resources and reference tools for Latin American and Iberian
Studies; 5) Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and a
record of working well in groups or teams. Hours: Full-time.
Weekdays with some evenings and weekends. Salary/benefits: Rank
and salary commensurate with experience; benefits include 22 paid vacation
days, at least 13 paid university holidays, a choice of health plans,
