Assistant Professor/Reference and Instruction -- Southeastern Louisiana
University -- Louisiana
Library: Southeastern Louisiana University, Sims Memorial Library
seeks an enthusiastic librarian to work in a technology-rich,
instruction-oriented Reference Department. Southeastern Louisiana
University, a progressive regional, comprehensive, interactive university,
enrolls over 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University's
home, Hammond, is at the cross roads of Interstates 55 and 12 in the heart
of Louisiana's thriving Northshore, the fastest growing region of the
state. The Library is a member of LOUIS, a statewide consortium of
academic libraries. Duties: Reporting to the Head of Reference, this
position serves as a member of the Reference team and provides reference
and instruction services using print and electronic resources. Reference
service includes traditional reference desk service to patrons within the
library as well as remote reference service to patrons via telephone,
e-mail and digital reference software. Instruction service includes
tours, general and subject-specific bibliographic instruction sessions and
sections of the Library's 1 hour-credit information literacy course. Other
duties include assisting in the development of print and Internet-based
instructional materials and reference guides, assisting in reference and
general collection development; acting as liaison to academic departments;
serving on Library and University committees, and participating in
professional development activities leading to tenure and promotion. Some
evening and weekend hours are required. Qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS. Strong commitment to public service, information
literacy and distance education library services. Effective oral and
written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and organizational
skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Candidates
with proven instruction skills, professional experience in an academic
library reference department, experience with instructional technology,
second masters degree, preferred. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track
position available April 1, 2007. Librarians have faculty rank, status,
privileges, and responsibilities. State or optional retirement plans.
