Senior Cataloger -- ASRC Aerospace -- Maryland
Senior Cataloger
Coordinates and participates in the bibliographic control of serials,
periodicals, microforms, audiovisual materials, as well as electronic and
digital resources; remains current with emerging trends in the cataloging
of serials, periodicals, microforms and audiovisual materials; serves as
the resource person for and trains library support staff to catalog
serials, periodicals, microforms and audiovisual materials; works in a
team environment to facilitate identification, access, maintenance and
archival issues related to serials, periodicals, microforms and
audiovisual materials.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Must be familiar with AACRII and CONSER cataloging rules, LC and Marc
formats. Basic knowledge of HTML is helpful.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
ALA-accredited Masters in Library Science. 3-5 years of
library/information center experience in the cataloging area,
including internships.
Essential job functions:
·Perform copy cataloging in the areas of periodicals, serials,
microforms and audiovisual materials.
·Perform cataloging of electronic resources.
·Maintain the structure of online cataloging by using MARC format
and the OCLC system.
·Conduct authority work for name and subject in the online
database.
·Revise and update policy and procedures for serials cataloging and
control.
·Act as lead contact person for serials and digital materials
management.
·Troubleshoot cataloging problems and provides professional
guidance.
·Oversee and provide assistance in periodic inventory of
collections based on schedules.
·Maintain and update Branch procedures for professional standards
and consistency.
·Create and safeguard the bibliographic access to printed and
electronic resources.
· Perform some collection maintenance activities replacing labels
on monographs and bound serials to reflect new locations associated with
inventory duties.
Physical/Intellectual Requirements:
Ability to assimilate and utilize complex technical data essential to the
services of the USPTO libraries and information centers.
