Librarian -- American InterContinental University Online -- Illinois
Libraries are a catalyst for increased student achievement and lifelong
learning. The Librarian at American InterContinental University (AIU)
Online is responsible for providing full online library services to online
students seeking undergraduate and graduate degrees. This special library
is completely online and directly supports the instructional needs of the
University's students and faculty in distance education and lifelong
learning programs. Although the library is completely online, AIU Online
Librarians are based at the location in Hoffman Estates, IL.
As a Librarian at AIU Online, you will be expected to keep up with the
fast-paced environment and with the needs of non-traditional students and
instructors. This position will provide the right candidate with an
intense yet rewarding career in online education.
On a daily basis, the librarians provide students with direction on how to
access information and ideas from current resources that support the
curriculum. At the same time, they are expected to maintain records and
statistics related to the online library collection/access development
and usage to meet all regulatory reporting requirements. They will be
responsible for providing online students and faculty with online library
orientation and promoting and encouraging the ethical use of information.
Librarians are responsible for evaluating the impact and effectiveness of
library resources in meeting instructional objectives including initial
evaluation of web resources and trial databases.
To be successful as a Librarian, candidates must have excellent reference
and communication skills and the willingness and ability to work the hours
necessary to accomplish assigned duties. AIU Online is committed to student

Requirements:
·Master's of Library Science degree required. MLS degree from an
American Library Association accredited program preferred.
·Experience in academic or public library. Experience with
American Library Association standards and national/regional
accreditation standards preferred.
·Educational background, knowledge, or experience in undergraduate
and graduate curriculum areas that include one or more of the
following: business, information technology, criminal justice,
education, or visual communication.
·Strong technology skills needed to provide innovative library
services, student support for electronic databases and other electronic
Web-based library resources.
