Assistant/Associate Professor - Library Science --  Appalachian State
University -- North Carolina

Assistant&#47;Associate Professor - Library Science

The NCATE Accredited Library Science Program at Appalachian State
University seeks a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to teach
graduate level courses in the school library media and&#47;or public
library tracks of the Library Science Program.  Faculty are expected to
teach three courses each semester, both on campus and at off campus cohort
sites.  Opportunities are also available for summer teaching.
The program services more than 100 students in pursuing an MLS in school
and&#47;or public librarianship.  The program is housed in the Department
of Leadership and Educational Studies in the Reich College of Education
along with programs in Instructional Technology, School Administration,
Higher Education and Educational Foundations.  We seek a collaborative
faculty member who subscribes to a social constructivist philosophy of
teaching and learning, who is interested in working with diverse
populations, and who would take an active role in moving the program to
the next level.

Required Qualifications&#58; 
&middot;Possess an earned doctorate in library science or a related field,
and a master's degree in library science or the equivalent
&middot;Demonstrate excellence in teaching and have a strong record in or
the potential for scholarly work and professional service
&middot;Demonstrate record of or potential for conducting outreach and
public service activities
&middot;Possess knowledge of current trends in school library media
and&#47;or public librarianship
&middot;Communicate well orally and in writing
&middot;Be eligible to earn 076 Media Coordinator licensure in North
Carolina
&middot;Be eligible for appointment to graduate faculty
Preferred Qualifications&#58;
&middot;At least three years of professional experience in a school
and&#47;or public library setting
&middot;Willingness and ability to assume a leadership role in the
profession at the local, state and national levels
&middot;Proven record of collaborative work and teaching
&middot;Knowledge and experience in technology as well as an interest in
alternative instructional delivery approaches for off-campus instruction
&middot;Significant interest or experience in more than one of the
following&#58;  collection development, reference services, cataloging,
management, information technologies, instructional design, grant writing,
literacy, and literature for children and young adults
Responsibilities in addition to teaching classes include student
advisement, supervising internship experiences, curriculum development and
may include on-line instruction and&#47;or instruction at off-campus sites.
In addition to instructional duties, faculty members are expected to
maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in
service activities associated with the department, college, university,
public schools and professional community.

qualifications for the position with explicit responses to the required
qualifications
&middot;Identifying courses qualified to teach based on a review of those

&middot;Submitting a current curriculum vita and description of doctoral
program completed
