DIRECTOR OF CENTRAL LIBRARY QATAR FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Education City, Doha, Qatar
Qatar Foundation (http://www.qf.edu.qa) is a private, chartered,
nonprofit
organization founded in 1995 by the His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin
Khalifa
Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar. Through its projects and partnerships with
elite
institutions Qatar Foundation hopes to transform Qatar into a
knowledge-based society. The Foundation's mission is to prepare the
people
of Qatar and the region to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world
by
providing world-class educational opportunities.Headquartered in a
unique
2,500 acre Education City in the capital city of Doha, Qatar Foundation
hosts branch campuses of some of the world's leading educational and
research institutions, including* Virginia Commonwealth University
School
of the Arts in Qatar;* Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar;* Texas A
&
M University at Qatar;* Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar; *

Institute.The Foundation also is home to the Academic Bridge Program,

Qatar, where English is the standard second language, is perhaps the
most
liberal, hospitable and progressive of the Arabian Gulf countries. Qatar
is among the wealthiest countries in the world based upon GDP. The
population of Qatar is 900,000 (150,000 Qatari, 4,000 US citizens, the
remainder expatriates). Doha, with a population of 350,000, has all the
conveniences found in a modern city while retaining a traditional Arab
flavor evident in its old markets and Islamic Arab architecture. The US
Embassy considers Qatar among the safest countries in the world for
Americans.The Director of the Central Library reports to the QF Vice
President-Education. Initially the Director will act as the Vice
President's primary liaison with the Central Library Building Planning
Team to ensure the establishment of the state-of-the-art Central Library
that will serve all centers within Education City. Upon successful
implementation of the project, the Director will be responsible for
organizing, administering, and staffing all library programs in the
Central Library and coordinating relations among the campus branch
libraries within Education City and other major research libraries in
Qatar.Qualifications include* an ALA-accredited Masters degree (Ph.D.
preferred) in Library Science, Information Science, or an
internationally
recognized equivalent degree;* ten years of recent senior administrative
experience in college, university or research libraries;* a record of
distinguished scholarly and professional achievement appropriate for the
rank of Director of Libraries;* extensive knowledge of and vision in
current and emerging information, library trends and media
technologies;*
demonstrated leadership ability and experience with strategic planning,
project management, and project implementation; * excellent
communication
skills; and * a strong and committed customer-oriented approach.Leading
candidates will* have experience in negotiating electronic services for
multi-tiered/partnered use;* have experience selecting electronic
library
management systems; * have experience in consortia involvement as a
participant or manager;* have thorough knowledge of financial and
personnel-management procedures; * ability to foster an open, creative
and
collaborative environment; and* ability to excel in highly complex
organizational structures.The position offers an attractive remuneration
package free of local taxes. Additional tax advantages may apply for
