Head of Instructional Services, Doe/Moffit Libraries --  University of
California at Berkeley -- California

ServicesDoe/Moffitt Libraries$65,448 - $84,060 per annum, based upon
qualifications, plus administrative stipend
The University of California, Berkeley seeks a creative, innovative, and
collaborative librarian with demonstrated leadership skills and a
commitment to academic excellence to further the Doe/Moffitt Libraries'
involvement in teaching and learning initiatives. The Head of
Instructional Services manages the Instructional Services unit, directly
supervising 12 full-time staff including librarians and library assistants
in the Teaching Library and Media Resources Center, and contributes to
instruction and reference services. Additionally, the Head of
Instructional Services provides leadership and guidance for the planning,
development, and evaluation of all instructional services within the
Doe/Moffitt Libraries, the primary libraries for social sciences,
humanities, international and area studies, and undergraduate
services.With other Library staff, the Head of Instructional Services
proposes, develops, and sustains a variety of instructional services and
programs integral to the user-centered mission of the Doe/Moffitt
Libraries. New initiatives this person will have the opportunity to shape
span areas such as library instructor development and evaluation, faculty
development and collaboration, assessment of student learning, design of
teaching and learning spaces, use of instructional technologies,
exploration of e-learning strategies, and support for new media programs.
The Library has developed strong ties with key campus academic support
units and other campus libraries with which the Head of Instructional
Services will frequently collaborate. This person is a member of the
senior management team of Doe/Moffitt Libraries -- along with the
department heads of Circulation Services, Interlibrary Services, Reference
Services, and Research and Collection Services -- and reports directly to
the Associate University Librarian for Educational Initiatives and
Director of the Doe/Moffitt Libraries. This management team works
collaboratively to guide and coordinate the services provided by all
Doe/Moffitt staff and oversees the programs and facilities associated with
all units in the Doe/Moffitt Libraries, including four library instruction
rooms. UC Berkeley librarians are expected to participate in Library-wide
planning and governance, to work effectively in a shared decision-making
environment, and to be active professionally. In order to advance in the
Librarian series, the successful candidate is expected to show evidence of
professional growth and contributions beyond the primary assignment.
Renewed campus emphasis on undergraduate education, collaborative learning
environments, and teaching innovations offer the incumbent substantial
opportunities to contribute creatively to the Library, UC Berkeley campus,
UC System, and library profession.QUALIFICATIONSRequired: * MLS from an
ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent degree* At least three years
experience providing and planning services and programs related to library
instruction and information literacy, preferably in academic or research
library environment * Potential to lead change in a collegial manner*
Evidence of user-centered vision, creativity, and innovation* Demonstrated
ability to work effectively in a large, decentralized library environment *
Demonstrated commitment to mentoring, training, and staff development *
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse staff and campus
user communities * Evidence of strong teaching and reference skills*
Knowledge of national trends related to library instruction and
information literacy* Expertise in areas such as library instructor
development, faculty development, evaluation and assessment, teaching and
learning spaces, instructional technologies, e-learning, and/or new media
* Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical
skills * Evidence of professional contribution commensurate with senior
librarian status in the UC System. Preferred:* Experience managing budgets
and resources effectively* Experience collaborating with campus academic
support units* Familiarity with developments related to creating and
supporting effective learning environments* Experience integrating library
services and resources into learning management systems* Familiarity with
trends related to undergraduate libraries and academic libraries in
general* Knowledge of national trends related to undergraduate education
and higher education in generalThe Library at the University of California
