Collection Development Librarian/Assistant Professor of Library Science --
 Central College -- Iowa
 

Central College invites applications for a service-oriented, creative,
tech-savvy librarian who is enthusiastic about developing collections and
services for students and faculty in an outstanding liberal arts college
library. 
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT&#58;  A twelve-month, tenure track position reporting
to Director of Library. Expected start date July 1, 2007. 
QUALIFICATIONS&#58; Required&#58; ALA&#47;MLS; liberal arts background;
relevant experience in an academic library with an integrated library
system; knowledge of trends in digital and conventional publishing;
proficiency in fund accounting and library budgeting practices; experience
cataloging with OCLC and MARC formats, A-Z lists, proxy servers; web page
creation, course management systems, and desktop applications;
demonstrated reference & teaching skills with a wide range of resources
and technologies; excellent organizational & interpersonal skills;
demonstrated potential to meet teaching, service, and professional
development requirements to achieve tenure and promotion. Desired&#58;
experience with Innovative Interfaces system especially Millennium
modules.
RESPONSIBILITIES&#58; Manage collection development including selection,
vendor relations, budgets, acquisitions and serials; formulate collection
policies; integrate serials and electronic resources into access systems;
supervise acquisition&#47;serials staff; keep abreast of developments in
publishing and scholarly communications; share in reference, teaching, and
planning for library strategic initiatives in a dynamic information
environment. 
GEISLER LIBRARY&#58; Library faculty are full partners with their academic
colleagues, teaching information literacy components in subject-oriented
sessions and in Central's first year experience course Intersections. The
library's welcoming and well-equipped facilities are heavily used by
students in all majors and programs. Users have wireless access to the
Internet, individual and small group study areas, a growing collection of
235,000 volumes, 10,000 audio&#47;visual items, 50,000 microforms,
subscriptions to 1000 print serials and an array of database aggregators
with access to 12,000 web-based journals. Media Center staff assist
faculty and students in the development of digital and linear AV
production for teaching and learning. The Archive features unique college
and local history documents related to the early settlement of Pella by
the Dutch. All collections are accessed by a state-of-the art Innovative
Interfaces system and an extensive web site. The library's Writers Reading
Series features renowned authors reading from their works. More information
