Communications Specialist:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or other
related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in journalism, public relations or
corporate communications as well as event planning. Some journalism
experience a plus.
Skills: Solid writing and editing skills and an understanding of working
with the news media are required. Candidate must be a good listener,
well organized, detail-oriented, independent, self-motivated, and able
to work well under tight deadlines. Position requires the ability to
communicate clearly with a variety of in-house personnel, to clearly
define objectives and multiple initiatives and to function as a team
player. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Job Description:
Helps develop and execute media relations strategies related to Girl
Scouts of Tanasi Council – a growing council serving 18 counties.
Includes writing and/or editing news releases, fact sheets, basic
on-line press pitches, presentations and other communications.
Under supervision of the Marketing and Communications Director,
candidate works with internal/external resources needed to generate news
releases and/or respond to media inquiries, daily news monitoring,
preparing press releases and outreach to select industry trade
publications. Helps generate high-impact editorial placements in print
and broadcast.
Helps support Girl Scout Council events and initiatives through local,
regional and national media relations. As part of Marketing &
Communications Dept., candidate assists in editorial development of
Tanasi magazine and internal communications. Provides event planning and
marketing support as needed for Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council. Performs
other duties as needed and as required by supervisor.
