Hello Golden Key Members!
My name is Becca Drone and I am the Green School Liaison for our chapter.
Green School is a magnet elementary school associated with Project Grad. We
have worked with them in the past in an after-school tutoring program, and
hope to do so again this year. Right now, however, I need your help with
something else. Each year Green School has a job shadowing day. As part of
this activity a group of students always comes to UT to see what college life
is like. We need people to volunteer to take an elementary school student with
them to class and to lunch. The students will be here on Thursday, February
9th from around 10:30-1:30. We would prefer that you take the student to your
11:10 class and then bring them to the UC for lunch. If this seems like it
would fit with your schedule please let me know! The students usually enjoy it
if you have a fun sort of class, like art or music, but any class works. If
you are interested or would just like more information, email me at

Greetings!
Our next general member meeting will be on Thursday, February 9 from 7-8pm in
room 220 in the UC. Lots will be going on!
1.There will be a few people there to talk to us about some upcoming events
such as the Green School Tutoring program and a Kaplan Practice Test and
Admissions Workshop. I encourage everyone to sign up for the practice test,
which you can do at the meeting, because we are competing with other student
organizations for participation. The organization with the most participants
in the free practice test receives a Kaplan Course at half price!
2.We will be making Valentine's Day cards for a Knoxville-area Senior Citizens
Center. We will have all the tools for making beautiful cards and some candy
to enjoy in the process. The Halloween cards we made last semester were a BIG
hit. We have some extremely creative members!
3. If you have any old textbooks or children's books you would like to donate,
please bring these to the meeting as well. The Golden Key Leadership
Conference is in Atlanta this year so we are collecting books for Better World
Books again and donating the money to an at-risk elementary school in Atlanta
called Hope Elementary. Hope's library is absolutely bare, which is sad
considering they teach illiterate parents how to read there as well. So
whatever you can donate, please do.
4. The officers will be meeting after the general member meeting. If you are
interested in an officer position next year, we would love for you to hang out
afterwards and see how things are run. For those interested, you will be
assigned an officer to 'shadow' for the rest of the semester. If you can't
make the meeting, but would like to participate in the job shadowing, please
email me ([log in to unmask]) with what position you would be interested in or
what you enjoy doing. There are COUNTLESS officer positions, you can find them
on www.goldenkey.org or just email me.
See everyone on Feb.9!
