Assistant Director of Marketing in the
Public Relations and Marketing Office
Regular Full-Time Position
General Description
The assistant director of marketing reports to the executive director of
public relations and leads the office's creative staff to maximize
marketing efforts, especially for prospective students. Responsible for
tracking and studying relevant trends and developing creative concepts and
advertising copy for marketing campaigns.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Leads the University's positioning, branding and marketing efforts.
* Create and revise strategic marketing plan to effectively position
APSU in the regional market and maximize recruitment.
* Create and/or collaborate with office staff to conceptualize and
write creative and effective advertising copy (print and broadcast).
* Use data-based marketing research and analysis to work with creative
team to develop creative, effective concepts for ad campaigns, as needed.
* Develop, propose and manage advertising budget.
* Create mini-marketing plans for individual programs, such as Extended
and Distance Education.
* Work closely with Admissions staff to maximize recruitment efforts
with well-timed, region-specific advertising campaigns.
* Monitor advertising campaigns through ongoing communication with
media representatives and PR/Marketing staff involved in the process.
* Identify potential target regions and demographic segments.
* Constantly monitor industry and market trends, competitor activities
and other factors that could impact our recruitment or marketing
activities.
* Develop detailed media plans and make best buys in radio, television,
newspapers, magazines, outdoor signs and other venues.
* Identify new, targeted communication vehicles, such as
school-distributed organizers) to enhance awareness of APSU and its
attributes.
* Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
* Must be a creative thinker and possess strong marketing-communication
skills.
* Must also be a strategic thinker, well-organized and analytical.
* Must have a complete understanding of target markets, segmentation
and branding.
* Must have ability to translate market trends into creative marketing
plans and effective advertising campaigns.
* Must develop a broad understanding of marketing within higher
education.
* Must have ability to prepare, monitor and work within an annual
marketing budget.
* Must have ability to work on and meet various deadlines.
* Must have ability to work collaboratively on projects.
* Must understand how to work with all media venues.
* Must have ability to negotiate the most effective media buys based on
market analysis.
* Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well
with supervisors, coworkers, University community and others.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in marketing communications, along
with demonstrated successful experience in the field.
Marketing/advertising agency experience is preferred. College/university
experience is desirable. A background check will be required for the
successful applicant.
