POSITION PURPOSE
Advises the TVA Board and TVA executives on media relations strategies and
tactics to effectively communicate TVA’s goals, programs, and policies.
Manages TVA’s liaison with regional, national, trade, and financial news media
by maintaining daily contact with media and providing information in response
to media questions by overseeing and editing all news releases, print and
broadcast, in order to communicate TVA policy, the status of major programs
and the benefits of TVA programs and activities to the Valley. Plays a key
role in radiological drills and exercises and in any actual events.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
· Advises the TVA Board and TVA executives on media relations
strategies.· Primary Agency contact with regional, national, trade, and
financial news media.· Manages all staff contacts with the media and the
development of print and broadcast news releases to facilitate the
dissemination of accurate, timely information concerning TVA programs and
policies to the public.· Manages the media relations activities to assure that
vital and accurate information reaches the media and the public in the event
of emergencies at nuclear plants or dams.· Manages the Agency’s development of
responses to Freedom of Information Act requests from the news

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Certification/License)
Comprehensive experience in and knowledge of media-related operations. A
thorough knowledge of journalistic writing and radio broadcast principles.
Detailed knowledge of TVA programs, policies, procedures, and organizations.
Knowledge of Nuclear Regulatory Commission public information requirements.
Understanding of the federal statutes relating to the Freedom of Information
Act. A B.S. degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is
desirable.
