UT announces new initiative for students to find fun on a Friday night
Knoxville----The University of Tennessee's new program, Vol Night Long, will
be held Friday, November 12 from 10p.m. to 2a.m. at the University Center as a
way for students to have fun on a Friday night on campus.
Vol Night Long includes music provided by Cotton Eyed Joes, free midnight
breakfast, the film "Tombstone," a mechanical bull ride, Pepsi floats,
old-timey photos, and free bowling and pool in the Down Under games area.
Admission is free but only to UT students with a valid UT ID.
Vol Night Long gives students a fun place to go Friday nights on campus. This
type of "late night programming" began on other campuses nationwide as an
alternative social outlet for students instead of the bar scene on the
weekends. UT's initiative mirrors other successful programs at institutions
such as the University of South Carolina, University of Georgia and Penn State
University.
"This program will appeal to all UT students," said Associate Dean of Students
Ron Laffitte. "Just about everyone should find something fun here to do. And
you can't beat the price: it's free."
Vol Night Long is collaboration between a variety of student groups and campus
programs. Another Vol Night Long program will be planned for next semester.
