How would you like $120 in your pocket in exchange for upholding democracy?
Golden Key International Honour Society (Golden Key) has partnered with the
Election Assistance Commission to recruit college students to help out with
the elections this November. In exchange for a two hour training before the
election and working the polls on election day, you get $120! This is EASY
money.
The reason for the recruitment is the Help America Vote Act. This was enacted
partly in response to the fiasco in the last elections. Polls are being
updated and computerized. The average pollworker in the U.S. is 72 and most
U.S. counties have a shortage of pollworkers. If we want a polling place on
campus, we need to show our support to the election commission. After all, if
we were trained and willing to run the polling place, how could they say no?!
Some accommodations have been made for students: Knox County is allowing us to
split a poll shift (pay=$70) as long as we are responsible about being there
on time.
So, if you are interested in making some easy money for maintaining a
democratic process in this country, please contact me at [log in to unmask]
(You don't have to sign up now; this is a show of interest.) Thank you!
