SELF DEFENSE WORKSHOP FROM JSC/HILLEL
There will be a self-defense workshop on Sunday, February 29 (that's this
Sunday) from 2-4pm in the Crest Room at the UC. The workshop will be lead by
nationally ranked expert Jay Lockhard. The class fee is $5 and is open to all
students (so bring a friend). This is being sponsored by JSC/Hillel.
Self-defense classes usually teach techniques to fight an attacker regardless
of the size difference. More importantly, they teach you how to always stay
aware of your surroundings so that the likelihood of someone catching you
off-guard is minimized.
I'd like to encourage everyone to attend! If you are a woman on a college
campus, you are being irresponsible if you have not taken a self-defense
class, in my opinion. (If you can't make this one, UTPD offers them
regularly... check their website. It's great to feel like we're all safe, but
frankly it's better to be prepared in case.) And gentlemen, women aren't the
only ones who get jumped in parking lots at night on campus, so you should
consider a self-defense class as well. This is a great opportunity, as classes
taught by Mr. Lockhard are usually much more than $5, so I urge you to take
advantage of this if you can.
Okay, sorry for the lecture, but do take a self-defense class. And come to the
next Golden Key meeting... there'll be pizza again!
