Here is a letter from a Golden Key member, who is a candidate for SGA
president:

Golden Key Members,

My name is Sarah Keeton, and I am running for SGA President with Volunteer
Voice. My running mate is Adam Prater, and Carol White is running for the
Board of Trustees. We are determined to shift the policy process at UT to
be more oriented toward students and their organizations.

As a member of multiple student organizations, I understand and appreciate
the effort you put forth to serving the University of Tennessee. Also, I
understand the frustration and apathy that develops from dealing with the
immense bureaucracy of the university. This is why I decided to run for SGA
president, to empower students. Students need to be given the voice they
deserve on campus, and an aggressive and active SGA is the best way to help
students and student groups reach their full potential.

Adam and I do not feel like students are in control of the decisions that
are made that affect us. That is why Volunteer Voice has chosen to develop
the Empowerment Plan with three feasible solutions to this problem.

Most importantly to your organization, Volunteer Voice plans to put
students in charge of Student Activities fee. This money is now tied up
with administrative bureaucracy that makes the efforts of organizations
such as yours to utilize this money difficult and tedious. By working with
students to distribute the Student Activities fee, Volunteer Voice will
assure that this money is used appropriately to bring meaningful programs
and services to the university.

Next, upon another tuition increase we will mobilize SGA to convey student
concerns to our legislature and administration. We will involve the student
body in one of the largest lobbying campaigns in UT history, using letters,
email, phone calls, Nashville visits, legislative luncheons, and
administrative meetings to show the concern of UT students.

Lastly, Volunteer Voice will establish a permanent presence for UT-
Knoxville on the Board of Trustees. For the last three years we have had no
student voice on the body that governs our university. That is three years
of tuition increases, service cuts, and academic changes. It is imperative
that the flagship campus of Tennessee always be heard on the Board.

As you can see, Volunteer Voice has the most feasible and developed
solutions for the problems that affect students’ everyday lives. Adam,
Carol, and I feel that we are the most qualified candidates with the best
experience. To learn more about our platform please visit

on April 1 or 2.

Sincerely,

Sarah E. Keeton
President, Volunteer Voice
