Mark your calendars for PR Day 2002, "The Business Case for Public
Relations." On Friday, September 27, 2002 at the University of Tennessee,
PR Day will feature the following nationally-recognized guest speakers:
Susan Packard, President of New Ventures for Scripps Networks.
Ms. Packard is responsible for developing new networks, new media
applications, strategic partnerships and other ventures. As an officer of
Scripps Networks, Inc., she oversees the affiliate sales and international
and new business development departments for the organization, which
include HGTV,the Food Network, the Do It Yourself (DIY) Network, and the
Fine Living Network. Packard will be discussing the role of strategic
public relations in an organization's success, addressing such topics as
research, market segmentation and identifying target markets.
Timothy Doke, Vice President of Corporate Communications for American
Airlines.
Mr. Doke is responsible for American Airlines' media relations and internal
communications as well as its foundation, museum, and publishing company.
He began his career in 1976 with the Missouri Division of Commerce. He then
worked at a variety of major public relations firms throughout the
U.S. before joining the airline in 1992. He will be discussing American
Airlines' response to the events of September 11th and the impact it has
had on the airline's communications efforts.
Lou Thompson, President and CEO of the National Investor Relations
Institute.
From Wall Street to the White House, Thompson is a recognized expert on the
subject of corporate disclosure and other investor-relations issues. A
graduate of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Senior
Executive Program, he has served in a variety of communications roles
- including assistant White House press secretary - in a communications
career that spans more than 40 years. Thompson has also served in advisory
capacities with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the New York Stock
Exchange, and Nasdaq. He has received Investor Relations magazine and
Barron's inaugural award for lifetime achievement in investor relations.
During the afternoon, other speakers will be on hand to discuss the
strategic applications of the public relations process, practical
connections between business and nonprofit as well as offering one-on-one
time between industry professionals and college students.
The event kicks off at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. The cost is as
