Director of Public Service and Outreach
The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at The University of
Georgia seeks an energetic, flexible communicator to serve as Director of
Public Service and Outreach. This person will assist the Dean, Department
Heads, Directors of Institutes and Centers with all aspects of public
service programs.
Responsibilities: This position requires the coordination and planning of
existing programs, outreach into under represented communities, conferences
and meetings, expertise in highlighting research in the College, and
promotion of college programs. The position is currently open. He or she
will be appointed at the Public Service Assistant level. Minimum of a
master's degree is required.
The College: The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication is one
of the nation's oldest programs in journalism and mass communication. It
has three departmentsadvertising and public relations, telecommunications,
and journalism and about 50 faculty to serve a controlled enrollment of
650 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. It has several institutes and
centers including: the James M. Cox Jr. Institute for Newspaper Management
Studies, the Dowden Center for New Media, the James M. Cox Jr. Center for
International Mass Communication Training and Research, and the Peabody
Awards.
The University: The University of Georgia, the nation's oldest chartered
state university, is composed of 13 schools and colleges, more than 2,000
faculty members and 32,000 students. The university's main campus is in
Athens, a city of 100,000 that offers many opportunities for recreation,
cultural activities, and pleasant living. It is located about an hour from
Atlanta.
