PRSA-GA & MERCER OFFERS BUSINESS CLASSES FOR COMMUNICATIONS PROFESSIONALS
ATLANTA, January 19, 2002 - Furthering its mission to provide professional
development support for its members, the Georgia Chapter, Public Relations
Society of America (PRSA-GA) has joined with the Stetson College of Business
and Economics, Mercer University, Atlanta, to offer a "mini MBA" for its
members and other communications professionals.
"We know that our members have a need to understand business, master those
business skills that will enhance their professional value, and allow better
support of their employer's or client's goals," commented Mark Dvorak,
president of PRSA-GA. "Our chapter has made significant contributions to our
members in the area of professional development, and
now, with the assistance of the business school at Mercer, we will help our
members reach outside of their traditional training to broaden their
expertise."
The educational series, "Business School for Communicators," will consist of
eight weeks of classes to be held on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 9 p.m., March
12 to April 30, 2002. Classes will meet at the Mercer University - Atlanta
campus off I-85 at Chamblee-Tucker Road. Stetson School of Business and
Economics professors will teach all courses.
"We have learned that the top educational priority for communicators is to
gain an understanding of how business is managed and to learn the skills
they missed during earlier study, " said Dr. F. Frank Ghannadian, associate
dean, professor of Finance, Mercer University. "We are pleased to partner
with PRSA-GA in launching this unique opportunity."
The program will cover a variety of business-related subjects aimed
specifically to support the communications professional's role. Courses
will focus on skills such as effectively using and interpreting numbers and
data, conducting financial analysis, and better understanding and
communicating in today's competitive business environment. Classes in
accounting, consumer research, finance, management, legal issues and
marketing are also part of the curriculum.
Cost for the eight-week program will be $550 for PRSA-GA members and $650
for non-members. As an incentive to join, non-members who join the local
chapter before the first day of class will be offered the member price. A
certificate will be awarded to all who attend and successfully complete the
series.
Heading the project are the chapter members Marleen C. Burford, APR, Cox
Interactive Media, and Eleanor Smith, APR, Porsche Cars North America, Inc.
