Attached is a description of an entry-level public affairs specialist
position with the U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge Operations (ORO).
The starting pay for this position (GS-7) is $29,273. However, it is a
professional career-ladder position with the potential for promotion in
four years to a GS-13 position, which pays $61,749.
We are looking for a recent communications graduate who has focused on
journalism or public relations as part of their education. While I am
anxious to fill this position quickly, we also will consider candidates who
are still in school and are expecting to graduate this semester. We prefer
those students who have had a communications internship or professional
experience and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better. Writing ability is the
primary consideration, but we are also interested in individuals who have
had some experience with special publications, graphics, and web site
design. Resumes should be mailed to the address listed below or faxed to
(865) 576-1665.
For your information, my office is responsible for news media relations,
public involvement, employee communications, special events, executive
communications, Web site management, and emergency public communications.
ORO is a major field operation for the U.S. Department of Energy with
facilities in five southeastern states. More information about ORO is
available through our Web site at <www.oakridge.doe.gov>.
