Director of Media Relations
Emory University Office of Health Sciences Communications seeks an
experienced public relations professional for the established position of
Director of Media Relations and Associate Director, Health Sciences
Communications.
The Director plans and directs local, regional and national medical,
science and healthcare/science business related media relations for the
Robert Woodruff Health Sciences Center including EMORY HEALTHCARE.
Supervises media team of five and coordinates media relations programs in
other components of the Woodruff Center. Develops and implements media
relations strategy for the overall center and its schools and departments,
EMORY HEALTHCARE and individual clinical programs, and other areas.
Identifies media outlets, develops contacts with key media, and places news
and feature stories. Oversees content for the health sciences web news
pages (www.emory.edu/WHSC/HSNews). Advises Emory administrators, deans,
faculty and physicians on release of information to the media, providing
media training as appropriate. Develops and implements media relations
crisis management.
The position requires at least five years experience with media relations,
two in a managerial capacity. Should be a good writer, strong team player,
flexible, able to work well with people. Academic health center experience
a big plus!
The Woodruff Health Sciences Center consists of schools of medicine,
nursing, and public health; the Yerkes Primate Research Center; and EMORY
HEALTHCARE, the most comprehensive healthcare system in metropolitan
Atlanta, including The Emory Clinic, Emory Children's Center, three wholly
owned hospitals, and various strong affiliates. Research funding for
1999-2000 was $203.8 million. The main campus, where this position is
located, is a beautiful suburban area of Atlanta, next door to the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Cancer Society.
