Subject: NEWS FROM PRSA

January 31, 2001

TO: PRSA Leadership

FR: Kathleen Larey Lewton, APR, Fellow, PRSA Senior Vice President,
Fleishman-Hillard

        Chair and CEO, PRSA

I am extremely pleased to announce that the Board of Directors of PRSA has
named Catherine A. Bolton president and chief operating officer the Society.

As you know, Catherine succeeds Ray Gaulke who now has his own consulting
practice and is working in that capacity as a fund-raising and marketing
consultant to PRSA, the PRSA Foundation and the Kids in a Drug-Free Society
program.

Working with Catherine since she came on board as chief public relations
officer in September, we realized what an ideal background she brought to
PRSA: significant association management experience, as well as serving as a
senior-level public relations practitioner. When we were interviewing CPRO
candidates, we made it clear that all candidates should have the potential
for moving up to the COO position at a future date.

When we announced the plans for Ray's transition in October, Catherine
stepped up to the plate and assumed increasing responsibilities for day-to-
day management of the Society, including development of financial plans and
the 2001 budget. Since she was appointed acting president/COO in December,
she has demonstrated both her management capabilities, including
re-organizing the staff so that our staff team is closely aligned with key
Society needs and priorities; developing functional budgets for the first
time at PRSA, and instituting a strong budget management/spending control
system. Simultaneously, she has developed extremely positive relationships
with our current staff members, who are enthusiastic about being part of an
exciting new vision for management of the Society.

Given all of this, the Board believed that we had on board the ideal
candidate for president and COO, and we are delighted that Catherine has
agreed to accept the position.

For your information, Catherine has reorganized the PRSA staff into seven
areas:

******* Professional development, which includes PD programming,
accreditation, ethics, special interest Sections and the Professional
Resource Center, headed by Judy Voss;

******* Communications and creative services, which includes Tactics,
Strategist, other PRSA publications, the PRSA web site, member
communications and the creative services functions, headed by John Elsasser
and Lenore Oliveri;

******* Leadership support, which includes chapter services and staff
support for the Board, PRSA Foundation, districts, the College of Fellows
and the Assembly, headed by Dorothy McGinnis;

******* Special events and programs, including the international conference,
Silver Anvils and other awards programs, headed by Karla Voth.

******* The Public Relations Student Society of America, headed by Jeneen
Garcia.

Two other areas will be headed by individuals who are currently
being recruited, including a senior-level position responsible for
administration and finance (finance, MIS, headquarters operations,
membership processing and human resources), and marketing, which will
include membership recruitment, sponsorships, advertising and other sales
and promotion activities. A Web site manager is also being added to the
staff, along with a new financial officer to replace Joe Cussick, who left
PRSA last summer.

Catherine will manage support for PRSA's global initiatives and the
Society's public relations efforts, with a new director of media relations
position being created.

This structure allows the Society to concentrate our staff where
there is the greatest need, and to provide a new emphasis on professional
development, which is our core business, and on communications and service
to our chapters, districts, sections and other sectors of the Society."

Our volunteers who have been working with Catherine on a number of
initiatives have told us they value her association management expertise,
her skills in program development and financial management, and her upbeat
and enthusiastic approach.

If you haven't already met Catherine, I hope that you will be able
to do so in the near future. She will make a real difference for PRSA, for
our members, for our profession, and for the world that we serve. If you
have any questions please feel free to contact me at [log in to unmask]
