I've amused myself all day long reading the exploits
of Charissa and Katie from good 'ol "U of L," hunting
down the elusive and exotic "press kit."
Charissa and Katie, two words of advice: stop now. A
practitioners' listserv is the wrong forum for basic
questions like these. The sadness of two seniors in PR
asking fundamental questions aside, you do not chat on
a listserv in public. You ask specific questions that
are targeted to the interests (and knowledge level) of
the group on the list. And while our fine friends in
the media might argue just how smart most pratitioners
are, I'd bet that most of the people on this list saw
their first media kit some time during or before the
Ford administration. (That's the former President, not
the car.)
For more information on how to use a listserv, visit
www.whatis.com. It's a wonderful resource for all
things fundamental to the Web. For more information on
press kits, visit your favorite megacompany Website
and click their PR or Investor Relations section. Most
have a section called "online press kits." They
usually consist of fact sheets, bios on company
officers, etc. (PLEASE do not ask what a fact sheet or
a bio are.)
I'd even bet that good 'ol "U of L" has a press kit
online.
Don't take this personally. Just stop. Now.
