Position Available: SAMAB (Southern Appalachian Man and Biosphere
Program) Foundation Director of Development, Fund Raising and Membership
Responsibilities.
Primary responsibilities for this position include
raising money from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Other
responsibilities include: developing a membership program, donor
recognition, and other initiatives targeting public and private
financial and in-kind support. A special focus for this position will
be working in collaboration with ongoing programmatic and outreach
initiatives for development purposes.

The position will report to the SAMAB Foundation President and work in
close concert with the SAMAB Executive Director and Coordinating
Office,the Foundation Board of Directors, and the SAMAB Cooperative
ExecutiveCommittee and working committees.

Qualifications. The successful applicant will hold a four year degree
in an applicable field, have at least five years experience in fund
raising or related positions, and possess a demonstrated ability in
organizational development and high standards of performance. Knowledge
of regional philanthropy and success with development functions
required. Superior interpersonal skills paramount, as well as ability
to work in an interdisciplinary and geographically distributed team
setting. Knowledge of current technology applications, planning and
presentation methods, and communication strategies is important.

Logistical expectations. The Foundation anticipates filling this
position as full time, most likely on a contractual basis. Initial
commitment is for one year of a 5-year development program. The
applicant is expected to reside within the Southern Appalachian Region.
Significant interaction is expected with the Knoxville Coordinating
Office as well as with SAMAB members, cooperators, and potential
benefactors around the region and elsewhere. Space, computer,telephone,
and limited support can be provided in the Coordinating Office.
