Australian-German Workshop on Differential Geometry in the Large 4-15 February 2019.
This two-week workshop will be held at the MATRIX research and conference center located on
the Creswick campus of the University of Melbourne.

in-the-large/
The first week will be an international conference to highlight recent advances in global
Riemannian and metric geometry, topology, and geometric analysis to foster communication
between experts and early career researchers. Keynote speakers will include Ben Andrews,
Christian Baer, Christoph Boehm, Robert Bryant, Fuquan Fang, Thomas Farrell, Rod Gover,
Bernhard Hanke, Frances Kirwan, Claude LeBrun, Peter Petersen, Neil Trudinger, Guofang Wei,
and Burkhard Wilking.
The second week will focus on new problems and potential directions of future research that
came up in the first week. There will be parallel sessions on the following four broad themes:
- Geometric evolution equations and curvature flow
- Structures on manifolds and mathematical physics
- Higher invariants and positive scalar curvature
- Recent developments in non-negative sectional curvature
In the mornings, in each session, there will be a couple of specialist talks, and then
researchers will split in yet smaller groups to attack research problems throughout the day.
Sources of support for this workshop include the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute,
the Australian Mathematical Society, the Ian Potter Foundation, and La Trobe University, as
well as the German Research Foundation's SPP 2026: Geometry at Infinity and a grant to
support U.S.-based participants from the National Science Foundation.
Participation is by formal invitation only and space is very limited. At this time, thanks to
support from the National Science Foundation, there are a few additional spots for U.S.-based
participants. The grant will cover flights, meals, and accommodation. U.S.-based researchers,
especially graduate students, postdocs, and other early-career researchers, as well as women
and others from groups underrepresented in mathematics, are encouraged to contact Lee
Kennard ( [log in to unmask] ) to express their interest in attending the conference. Based on
these responses and further consultation with the workshop organizers, formal invitations will
follow.
Best wishes and happy holidays,
Lee Kennard, on behalf of the workshop organizers:
Owen Dearricott, University of Melbourne
Diarmuid Crowley, University of Melbourne
Thomas Leistner, University of Adelaide
Yuri Nikolayevsky, La Trobe University
Wilderich Tuschmann, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

This message was sent to you via the Geometry List, which announces conferences in geometry and closely related areas to over 1600 mathematicians worldwide.
At http://listserv.utk.edu/archives/geometry.html there are many functions available, including checking the archives since November 2005, changing your e-mail address or preferences, and joining/leaving the list. If you have problems that cannot be resolved at this website, send a message to [log in to unmask]
Before sending an announcement, please carefully read the following. Any announcements that are *not* about conferences (e.g. those about jobs, journals, books, etc.) will be rejected by the moderator without comment. To announce a geometry or closely related conference, send the announcement (including a conference web site if possible) to [log in to unmask] The moderator cannot edit your message; list members will receive the announcement as an e-mail from you EXACTLY as you submitted it. For example, if your submission starts with "Please post this on the geometry list" then your conference announcement will also begin with that statement. In order to keep down the volume of e-mail, only TWO announcements per conference will be approved by the moderator. The "subject" of your message should include the name of the conference and the number (first or second) of the announcement, e.g. Gauss Memorial Lectures in Geometry: Second Announcement. Please check that your announcement (especially the website) is correct. Corrections will be approved only in the most critical situations, e.g. if corrected information is not available on the website. After submitting an announcement you may receive a message asking you to confirm your submission. This feature is designed to thwart the hundreds of machine-generated spam that are sent to the list and would otherwise have to be manually blocked by the moderator. If you do not see your announcement within 48 hours, please check the archives to see whether it was actually posted (i.e. you somehow missed seeing the post or are not subscribed with your current email address). If the announcement is not in the archive, search for a confirmation message that you may have missed (from listserv.utk.edu). If none of this solves the mystery, send a message to [log in to unmask]
The Geometry List is sponsored and maintained by the Mathematics Department, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
