YAMABE SYMPOSIUM SEPTEMBER 15 - 17, 2006
This coming September 15-17 (Friday-Sunday) will be the
Third Yamabe Memorial Symposium at the University of Minnesota in
Minneapolis. The topic this time is "Geometry and Symplectic
Topology". Confirmed speakers are:
Denis Auroux, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Yasha Eliashberg, Stanford University
Mikio Furuta, University of Tokyo
Helmut Hofer, Courant Institute
Dusa MacDuff, SUNY Stony Brook
Peter Ozsvath, Columbia University
Yongbin Ruan, University of Wisconsin
Ron Fintushel, Michigan State University
Financial Support
We have funding from the National Science Foundation to
defray workshop expenses for a number of participants, with
highest preference given to younger scientists (grad students,
postdocs, young faculty or researchers at most five years after
Ph.D.), although all active people are eligible. Women and
minorities are especially encouraged to apply. The application
deadline for full consideration for funding is
Thursday, July 13, 2006.
Those who have resources available from their own grants are requested
to rely on such resources. Applications received later may also be
considered if funds allow.
If you are applying for financial assistance, you should send
a brief CV and have one letter of recommendation, addressing your
qualifications, sent to [log in to unmask] or by hard copy to Yamabe
Committee, c/o Robert Gulliver, School of Mathematics, University of
Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN 55455. The recommendation letter is optional
for people more than three years after receiving a Ph.D.
Registration for the workshop can be done
by returning the registration form included at the end of this
message to the organizers by email at [log in to unmask] The deadline
for registration (to ensure housing) is Thursday, July 13, 2006. Later
registrations may also be possible.
For further information see
http://www.math.umn.edu/yamabe/.
We hope you will make plans to come to the symposium!
Also, please recommend it to the graduate students, postdocs and
faculty colleagues you are in contact with.
This symposium is supported by the National Science Foundation,
the Yamabe Memorial Fund and the School of Mathematics at the University
of Minnesota.
If you have further questions about the symposium, please do not
hesitate to contact us at [log in to unmask]

This message was sent to you via the Geometry List, which announces conferences in geometry and closely related areas to around 1100 mathematicians worldwide.
Please note that the Geometry List has Moved! To announce a geometry
or closely related conference, send the announcement (including a
conference web site if possible) to [log in to unmask] In order to
keep down the volume of e-mail, only TWO announcements per conference
will be approved. The "subject" of your message should include the name
of the conference and the number (first or second) of the announcement,
e.g. Gauss Memorial Lectures in Geometry: Second Announcement.
To view the archives of the Geometry List since October 17, 2005, or join/leave the list, visit http://listserv.utk.edu/. To resolve any problems, such as inability to leave the list, send a message to [log in to unmask] Archives of conferences announced prior to October 17, 2005, will be made available at a later date, and the URL for the archives website will be mentioned in this space in future Geometry List announcements.
The Geometry List is sponsored and maintained by the Mathematics Department, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
