FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
Workshop on 3-manifolds after Perelman
A workshop, run through the ICMS Edinburgh,
will be held at Heriot-Watt University, from March 13--17 2006.
The workshop aims to set out directions for future research in 3-manifold
topology in light
of the recent major developments in the subject.
These include, Perelman's
probable proof of Thurston's Geometrization Conjecture,
the proof of Thurston's Ending
Lamination Conjecture, Marden's Tameness Conjecture and
the development of Heegaard Floer homology theory.
Details about speakers, format of the workshop, application for
funding, registration, and accommodation are available at:
http://www.icms.org.uk/meetings/2006/3-manifolds/index.html
In addition to ICMS funding, we have applied to NSF for
funding to help US based graduate students and postdocs attend the workshop.
Organizing Committee: Cameron Gordon, Jim Howie, and Alan Reid

This message was sent to you via the Geometry List, which announces conferences in geometry and closely related areas to around 1100 mathematicians worldwide.
Please note that the Geometry List has Moved! To announce a geometry
or closely related conference, send the announcement (including a
conference web site if possible) to [log in to unmask] In order to
keep down the volume of e-mail, only TWO announcements per conference
will be approved. The "subject" of your message should include the name
of the conference and the number (first or second) of the announcement,
e.g. Gauss Memorial Lectures in Geometry: Second Announcement.
To view the archives of the Geometry List since October 17, 2005, or join/leave the list, visit http://listserv.utk.edu/. To resolve any problems, such as inability to leave the list, send a message to [log in to unmask] Archives of conferences announced prior to October 17, 2005, will be made available at a later date, and the URL for the archives website will be mentioned in this space in future Geometry List announcements.
The Geometry List is sponsored and maintained by the Mathematics Department, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
